March 6- March 10

It’s the week before March Break!

In the classroom students are finishing up Narratives. Students continue to work on sentence structure, editing work and writing until their stories are complete not counting how many sentences they should have.

In Reading we continue to work on visualizing and decoding strategies. Next we are working on inferring. Students should  be reading and practicing their no excuse words daily.

Math- We are working on Time and moving onto Geometry.

Social Studies- We are working on our Mapping Unit while continuing to learn about traditions and celebrations during the year.

During the March Break please have your child write down a sentence each day on what your family/child is doing to support them with their writing and sharing when we return to school from break. It is also important to have students practice time and adding and subtracting facts.

February Update

Hello Everyone

Quick update- newsletter coming home tomorrow Feb. 8th-

Language- Beginning Narratives, Descriptive Writing, and exploring Non-Fiction Writing

Math- Finishing up Measurement and moving into 2D Geometry

Students are bringing home math tests to be signed and returned to school.

Social Studies- continuing to work on Celebrations around the World- throughout the calendar year.

Please continue to read with your child each night and practice math facts with them to support them in enhancing their abilities throughout all math strands and increasing their reading strategies and high frequency sight word bank.

January 30- February 3 2017

February is approaching!!

Math- Yesterday students had a few math assessments to bring home from their white mailbox buckets to show you and have signed. Students earn two super star tickets for every test (assessment) signed and returned to school. (We continue to work on Measurement)

Students are writing a story using their imagination this week. The sentence starter is ” I woke up in the morning I wasn’t in my room. I was….

Thursday February 2 2017- Wear a sweater to school day to show support to stopping climate change- saving energy!

Library is Friday February 3 2017 make sure students have their library books back in their backpacks to return.

Social Studies- Students are bringing home a page on Chinese New Year please read it together and complete the page provided. It is discussing the year family members were born to match the animal they would be in the Chinese New Year.  Take a moment in the next couple of days to complete and return to school for students to place in their scrapbooks. social studies test January 25th

Sorry for the delay in post…

This week on Wednesday ( January 25th ) students have a social studies test on celebrations and traditions and families.

I sent home a review package with the expectations on Thursday January 19th. If students read and talk about the review with their family, they should have no problem on the January 25th test.

Happy New Year Everyone! I hope everyone is well and enjoying the last few days of the Winter Break.

If your child has been able to complete “Jobs” from the holiday duotang that all students received to take home and work on during the break… please return it to school as I would enjoy reading them.

January 9th weekly words (  Working with words)

Social Studies- Traditions and Celebrations up to this point – Thanksgiving, Halloween, Remembrance Day, Kawanza, Christmas, Chinese New Year, as well as continuing to work on Our Family Unit

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone is keeping well!

For the next couple of weeks:

  1. Words this week are  group 1 winter, clear, fair, fresh, snow,
everyone else, winter, clear, fair, fresh, snow, shiver, stocking, whisper, parade, aware
There will not be any words next week. We are taking a week off.
2. Please make sure you are returning your child’s Christmas traditions book there are due today. Friday at the latest.
3. Last call for any recipes…. the very very last day is Monday December 19th to be included. Sorry but have to have a hard deadline.
4. Make sure field trip permission forms are in by this Friday December 16th as the Field Trip is on Monday December 19th and if we don’t have a permission form… your child is NOT going on the bus with us!
5. Please continue to practice reading sight words and poems in your home reading folder I will give a few extra poems/activities  for over the holidays in your child’s reading folder. I must have all folders to be able to do that by Monday December 19th 2016 to be ready to go home with your child to continue to advance their reading progress during the two weeks off.
6. Please continue to write any notes in your child’s agendas to be seen daily. For example if I need to support any
changings for RAZ kids, any questions etc.

This Week- Working with words

group 3- toothpaste, sink, sauce, sprinkles, strawberries, curtsy, skirt, cross, while, circle

Math- Patterning tests were sent home should be signed and returned to the classroom.

Also please send in your child’s favourite recipe they enjoy over the December holidays.

Make sure you are returning your child’s field trip form for the December field trip.

I would appreciate your child wearing green/red on Tuesday November 29th- you will understand why when something comes home just before the December holidays.

Also Dunes Packs are Wednesday November 30th – therefore your child needs to wear their Dune Pack Colour Wednesday.

Please make sure you are up to date in sending in the information needed for Social Studies – Family unit and Traditions and Celebrations pages.

Dear Parents.. it’s November

Thank you to everyone that came to your child’s interview. We are all working together to achieve student success.

This month in Literacy we are continuing to work on complete sentences, spacing, neatness, periods, captials, spelling, conventions and letter formation using capital letters appropriate and clearly printing low case letters (sentence structure). We are also working on Procedural Writing and Personal Recounts.

Working with words this week November 21- 25 – three groups- group 1. jump, hurt, stop, other, best

group 2- jump, hurt, stop, other, best, float, caught, people, outside, really

group 3- sometimes, other, those, pretty, vegetables, rhymes, Canada, coconut, litterbug, important

In Reading we continue to work on decoding words, making connections, schema ( previous knowledge) and add on visualizing, predicting, asking questions, deeper meanings – the importance of reading fiction and non-fiction and picking up a book. Also developing skills to be an independent reading.

READ READ READ- anything just read to and with your child- Your child’s reading folder is given out on Monday and needs to be returned Thursdays or Fridays each week. ( yellow folder)

If there is no new poem make sure you are practising your no excuse words given to you in September on mini cards you can use as flash cards or reading the library book that comes home or reading anything together that interests you both ( fiction or non-fiction)!

Math- Finishing patterning and moving on to Data Management

Social Studies- Celebrations and Traditions continue throughout the year- over this week talk to your child about Remembrance Day and what are your beliefs and understanding about the day in the month of November.

Continue to send me photos- and complete the family page for Thanksgiving, Halloween, Remembrance Day, next will be Christmas, New Years.

We are also beginning our Family unit- Please fill in the package of elders, symbols, family (3 different activities) with your child I gave out copies November 7th 2016 and return them.

I am asking families for a recipe that your child enjoys over the December holiday season

Art- blending of colours

Weather is changing- Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the daily weather changes.

Popcorn- is 1 dollar sold second break on Thursdays. Water bottles are sold in the office for 5 dollars. Milk and Pizza program continue as per usual.

Remember Library is every day 1 and Gym is every day 2.

Please use your child’s agenda each and every day. It is important they have it at school everyday. Please!! It is your number one source of communication with me. 🙂

October in Grade Two – 2016

Hello Parents and Guardians, It’s incredible that we have arrived in October.

Congratulations once again to Kodey O and Alanna B for being the two students winning the September character trait of Caring. These two demonstrated this character trait throughout September. Congrats ladies!

Please remember that pizza day is on Wednesdays and you can buy sheets ( tickets) on line and in the office for 20 dollars. Also the milk program is up and running for families to purchase tickets.

We have gym on Day 2 and proper footwear is extremely important for your child’s safety as they move throughout the gymnasium.

In the classroom:

Literacy we are working on demonstrating our various reading strategies and how to be the best reader we can be. We write daily, however, focusing on Recounts at the moment.

Working With Words- ( word wall – no excuse words)

Computer Lab- It would be greatly appreciated if your child could bring in ear buds for the lab to allow them to focus on their individual task as well as interact with the various programs offered. I will keep the ear buds separate and safe for each student.

Math- Finishing up Representing Numbers in different ways- Numbers to 50- Number Sense and Numeration

Communication: Please ensure your child carries their agenda between home and school each and every day. Thanks
